Valiant Swart played at the first Oppikoppi festival in 1994. This morning, 20 years later, he closed the festival at the legendary klein bar when he bashed out a memorable 33-song-set from 1:30AM to 04:00AM followed by a jam.
Next thing you know, in walks Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale – who headlined the festival a few hours earlier – and he sommer joins the Mystic Boer on stage.
Together with Albert Frost, Schalk Joubert, Vernon Swart and Simon Orange the unexpected collaboration delivered a classic grave-yard rendition of The Rolling Stone’s “Honky Tonk Women”.
Willy Mason also joined for a jam, but I’ll post that later this week.
Sorry for the shaky shots, it was late and I was GAAR.
