Up The Creek is a gem of a festival and easily one of my favourites for a few reasons:
It’s not that big and crowded so you don’t have to queue for drinks, coffee or food. You can swim or float in the river and watch a band play simultaneously. You’ll always see Taxi Violence, Piet Botha, Akkedis and The Black Cat Bones. There’s always some or other cheesy side-show wedding, theatre-thing happening and everything is within close proximity of each other.
In 2013, when I still worked for the now deceased Rolling Stone SA magazine – I made this quick flashback video to illustrate how cool the fest is – unfortunately I’ll be missing UTC for the first time in five years, so please have a drink on me and enjoy.
